Bead filters rely on the use of a media to provide a high surface area vs. volume ratio. This allows for support of the necessary amount of biomass to properly remove organic and inorganic waste from the pond. Microbelift Bead Filter Bacteria it is specially formulated for rapid establishment of "beneficial" bacteria to speed up the nitrogen cycle and organic removal capabilities while reducing the build up of residue in the filter. It also speeds up the recovery of your filter after medication treatments which can be harmful to your established bacteria colony.
